A few weeks ago, while attending the UCAS International Conference in Edinburgh, Scotland, I had the pleasure of taking my fifth campus tour of 2025! Along with nearly 100 fellow college counselors from all over the world, I visited the University of Stirling in Stirling, Scotland. What a beautiful (and affordable) school! (Average yearly cost of tuition, depending on the major, is $25,000. Not a typo.)
A few years ago, one of my India-based students was offered admission to University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill via Carolina Global Launch. She was given the exciting option to spend her first semester at University of Stirling in Scotland before heading to UNC.Â
This forever swim nerd and former collegiate swimmer was thrilled to learn that Stirling is home to Scotlandâs National Swimming Academy. Beyond swimming, the University is focused on and passionate about all things sport. Students can join more than 50 club teams. Elite athletes can take advantage of Focus Sports, providing a tailored package of support to work towards achieving performance goals. These Focus Sports include American Football and Basketball.
Â
Scotland's University for Sporting Excellence features strong undergraduate programs in Sport and Exercise Science, Sport Business Management, Sport Development and Coaching, and Sport Psychology, among others. We learned about a recent graduate who is now working as a Football Development Coach for Arsenal Football Club
Scottish Universities are similar to those in the USA in that they offer 3 and 4 year degrees and the first 2 years are typically focused on a comprehensive core curriculum.
My mission is to find colleges and universities that are the right fit for the right person. Attending school in the United Kingdom might be the right idea if you're fine with being farther from home! Check out the UCAS International Podcast and sample a college course here.
